SEAN AND JAMES TETLOW'S STYLE PREDICITONS FOR THE WINTER SEASON
Creative Directors of The Colour Room, Sean and James Tetlow give their interpretations of the trends from the catwalks and their predictions for hot new styles and colours for hair this Winter.
There are some really exciting looks and trends coming off the catwalks this season, which very much reflect the modern female's strength and independence. As these filter into the high street, we will see a move towards much stronger looks, with bolder outline shapes and move away from the over-textured, fine layering which has predominated in the last couple of years. Reflecting the textures and shapes of the clothing on the catwalks, hair styles can take on warrior-like shapes with "Joan of Arc" page-boys and edgy geometric bobs.
The classic bob is very much here to stay for a while longer and, indeed, featured predominantly in the majority of the catwalk collections. Heavy, face-framing fringes will make a come-back and we will see a move away from the short at the back, long at the sides "Pob" pioneered by the lovely Victoria . Instead, the bob will be more classically shaped, but will be given a modern twist with more solid and very definite outline shapes and the opportunity to go really short on the overall length if you are adventurous enough!
Smouldering glamour still features, but again this has a strong edge, with luxurious, structured tailoring reminiscent of the sexy screen sirens of the Forties and Fifties. Hair will take on long, luscious waves and will exude health and vitality with lots of gloss and shine. Heated rollers, curling tongs and natural bristle brushes will be the tools of the trade you need to achieve this retro look with a modern twist, where softness and movement are key. Products like Sebastian's Body Double range which includes shampoos and conditioners which add unbelievable volume to the hair, as well as "Thickefy Styler", a mousse which gives volume, hold and weightless texture to fine hair. Body Double's "Thick-Finish Volumizing Hair Spray" is a light weight finishing spray which creates thickness, volume and long-lasting, but very natural hold to your style.
Reflecting the trend for blocks of colour in clothes, block hair colours of platinum or honey blondes, vibrant reds, rich chocolate brunettes and raven blacks provide dramatic backdrops to all the current catwalks looks, regardless of which hair style you choose. And with all the looks, you can add your own individual touch with extravagant clips, slides and bands - all which feature in the coming trends.
Already in the salon we are seeing a growing demand for hair styles with volume and movement and a step back to the more classic hairdressing techniques of setting and dressing hair. We are doing far fewer half-head and full-head highlights and lots more all over colours which not only look great and are bang on-trend, but also serve to swell the hair shaft slightly, giving extra body, fullness and staying power to the hair style. If you are ready for a real change of style and colour and a totally new look then now is the time to take the plunge. There is a great look for all types, textures and lengths of hair and as we move into Winter, change is most definitely afoot!
